Testing the Battery of Your Vehicle

May 17th, 2022 by

Problems with your car’s battery can occur at any time during the lifespan of your battery. You can expect your battery to last anywhere from 3-5 years, and eventually, it needs to be replaced. If you are having problems getting your car up to speed, or you notice dim headlights, it’s time to test your vehicle battery at home.

Let your headlights stay on for about ten minutes, without turning your engine over. Your battery should be able to handle leaving the lights on this long if it is working properly. Turn the engine over and watch the headlights. If they get dim, your battery is failing the load test and needs to be replaced soon.

At our service center at Baxter Subaru La Vista in La Vista, NE, we will take a look at your battery and test it to see if you need a new one. We will recommend a replacement battery if necessary to keep your vehicle running well.
